Point Mallard offers new, compressed summer schedule for Year-Round Ice Skating Rink





Decatur Parks & Recreation officials have released an amended Point Mallard Ice Skating Complex operating schedule in accordance with the direction from the Decatur City Council to reduce facility expenses.

Opened in 2001, the rink was created to operate as a “year-round” venue providing a beautiful, safe, family-oriented, year-round recreation facility for the  City of Decatur, while promoting tourism which will enhance community economic growth…” (Point Mallard Ice Skating Complex Vision Statement, 1999).  After much consideration, Park Management has determined from March 10 – October 1, 2014, the Point Mallard Ice Skating Complex will commence a new “off-season” schedule, offering the following similar, but compressed schedule during the rink’s less utilized months:

Thursdays: 
5:00 – 7:00 p.m.                Freestyle Skate (Figure Skating)
7:00 – 8:30 p.m.                Adult Hockey
8:30 – 10:00 p.m.              Pick-up Hockey

Fridays:
5:00 – 7:00 p.m.                Freestyle Skate (Figure Skating)
7:00 – 9:00 p.m.                Public Skate Session

Saturdays:
8:00 – 12:00 p.m.              Freestyle Skate (Figure Skating)
12:00 – 2:00 p.m.              Public Skate Session
2:00 – 3:00 p.m.                Stick and Puck Session (Hockey)
3:00 – 5:00 p.m.                Public Skate Session


Park Superintendent, Jason Lake said, “We took into consideration all users of the ice complex in setting the new seasonal hours. It is our goal to meet the needs of each customer while still doing our best to cut expenses as the City Council has requested.  We feel confident this schedule will accomplish this goal.”
