Lacrosse Exhibition Set for Saturday, March 15 at JARC




On Saturday, March 15, 2014, the Huntsville Lacrosse Association and the Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association will host a boys’ lacrosse exhibition bringing teams from the Huntsville and Birmingham areas to the Jack Allen Recreation Complex. Matches begin at 11 a.m. and are open to the public.

Teams from Madison, Huntsville, Mountain Brook, Homewood, Vestavia, Oak Mountain, and Hoover are expected. Games are set for 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. on fields 1, 2, and 3 at the Jack Allen Recreation Complex.

The exhibition games are open to the public. Members of the Huntsville Lacrosse Association and the Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association will be on hand distributing information on lacrosse and answering questions from anyone interested in starting a lacrosse club. “Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports with youth across the southeastern United States. Members of the Huntsville Lacrosse Association and the Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association will have booths set up and distributing information on lacrosse and how to get the sport going here in Decatur,” said Leonard Morris, director of special events and sports marketing for the Decatur-Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Admission and parking are free.

For the past eight years, the Jack Allen Recreation Complex has hosted numerous soccer tournaments attracting thousands of amateur and professional players and earning a reputation as a world-class facility both nationally and internationally. In 2013, the complex welcomed its first lacrosse tournament where as many as 75 teams from across the southeastern United States traveled to Decatur for the River City Rivalry.
