Approximately 700 varsity cross country runners are expected to make their way to Lawrence County this month to compete in the 1st Place Athletics Northwest Alabama Championship. Set for Thursday, October 23, 2014 on the grounds of the Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center, race times for the regular season meet are set for 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Schools eligible to compete in the
1st Place Athletics Northwest Alabama Championship are schools
located west of Interstate 65 and north of Highway 78. Race time for girls is 4
p.m. and 4:30 p.m. for boys with the awards ceremony following at 5:15 p.m.
The top 20 finishers in each
division receive a t-shirt and “All Northwest Alabama Runner” designation with
medals presented to the top 10 runners. The top three teams receive trophies.

The championship course is also
great for spectators who want to witness competitive racing from the sidelines.
Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center is located approximately 8 miles south
of Moulton on Alabama Highway 157 and 1/2 mile from the Jesse Owens Memorial
Park. Admission is free for spectators.
