The first weekend in September,
approximately 3,000 high school cross-country runners from Alabama and
surrounding states will travel to Oakville to take part in the Chickasaw Trails
Cross Country Meet. The annual meet, set for September 6, 2014, will be held at
the championship course located on the grounds of the Oakville Indian Mounds
Education Center.
According to Event Organizer
Stanley Johnson, as many as 3,000 high school runners from Alabama, Tennessee
and Mississippi will take part in the race. This is the 14th year
for the meet, which fills hotels in both Lawrence and Morgan counties.
In addition to the Chickasaw
Trails Cross County Meet, the Oakville Indian Mounds also will host the Jesse
Owens Classic October 4, 2014, the 1st Place Athletics Northwest
Alabama Cross Country Championship October 23, 2014, and the AHSAA Cross
Country Meet November 8, 2014. The Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center is
located approximately 8 miles south of Moulton on Alabama Highway 157 and 1/2
mile from the Jesse Owens Memorial Park.
