2013 Chickasaw Trails Cross Country Meet Set for September 7

Approximately 3,000 high school cross-country runners from Alabama and surrounding states will travel to Oakville to take part in the Chickasaw Trails Cross Country Meet set for September 7, 2013. The annual meet will be held at the championship course located on the grounds of the Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center.

According to Event Organizer Stanley Johnson, as many as 3,000 high school runners from Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Georgia will take part in the race. Each year, Lawrence and Morgan counties team together to host the prestigious event to meet accommodation needs of participants. The one-day event provides a significant economic boost to both counties through revenues generated from lodging, dining, and retails sales at hotels, gas stations and other local merchants when visited by students and their families.

In addition to the Chickasaw Trails Cross County Meet, the Oakville Indian Mounds also hosts the annual Jesse Owens Classic October 5, 2013, and the AHSAA Cross Country Meet November 9, 2013. The Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center is located approximately 8 miles south of Moulton on Alabama Highway 157 and 1/2 mile from the Jesse Owens Memorial Park.
